Subject: Co-operative Policy

Dear Jewish Defence League,
Thank you for your recent email. We welcome the opportunity to clarify our position on the issue of the illegal Israeli settlements.

We would like to point out that contrary to what has become "popular belief" due to Islamic propaganda by the PSC (Palestinian Solidarity Campaign) and other anti-Semitic organizations, there is no such thing as "Illegal Israeli Settlements". The lands of Judea and Samaria are part of Israel, a legal and legitimate country. Jews have every right to build their own homes in Jewish land in which they had a continuous presence in these parts for over 3,000 years.
The Arab Muslim claim to these lands and their referral to Jewish homes as settlements is a lie and an attempt to de-legitimize the legitimate land of Israel, and everything to do with Jewish life. It is in itself anti-Semitic and those who perpetuate this lie fall into the same category. I note that you have used the same fake terminology, so at this stage it would be right for me to accuse the Co-operative and its policies of being anti-Semitic in nature.
I suggest you do some research in History. The British Mandate for Palestine where Jews were given BACK their land, included the whole Judea and Samaria - which are the areas now currently being referred by anti-Semite Arab Muslims as "West Bank".
The reality is that even the land that Jordan now occupies belonged to the Jews and were to be returned to them under the British Mandate for Palestine in 1923 but the British BETRAYED the Jews, split their land and gave more than half to the Arab Hashemite Kingdom, which thus became Jordan, an offshoot of the Saudi Arabia Kingdom.

Our Human Rights and Trade Policy, adopted in 2009, established the exceptional circumstances under which we will withdraw all trade from a particular state, area or settlement. One such circumstance is where there is a broad international consensus that the status of a settlement is illegal. There are only two examples of such settlements: the Israeli settlements in the Palestinian Occupied Territories and the Moroccan settlements in Western Sahara. On this basis, our policy has been not to source any produce or own-brand product from these settlements.

Regretfully your "Human Rights and Trade Policy" is biased and misled. As I explained above, there is no "broad International consensus" that Israeli "settlements" are illegal in Israel. This consensus you refer to is Arab-Muslim propaganda, which has managed to mislead many reputable organizations including your own. Furthermore Israel is the ONLY country in the Middle East to uphold full human rights and the rights of employment for all its citizens, be them Jews, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Bedouin or Druze.
Moreover, there is no such thing as "Palestinian occupied territories". This diatribe is an anti-Semitic rhetoric and bears absolutely no weight in a LEGITIMATE court of law. Throughout the whole time in History Palestine was never a sovereign country, with a sovereign ruler and subjects. Palestine is just a name given to those lands by a Roman procurator in 135 C.E in order to bastardise the Jews under his rule. The actual name was Philistia, and it was given because the ancient Philistines were enemies of the Jews. However, the Philistines were a people of Mycenaean origin, not Arab or Muslims. Thus "Palestine" was always a Jewish land from the last 3,000 years to the present day. As you can see your policies reflect an anti-Semitic agenda and not the reality of historical facts or the current situation. I suggest you re-work these policies as they are RACIST and BIASED.

On the 25th April, The Co-operative’s Board determined that, going forward, we will additionally no longer engage with any supplier of produce known to be sourcing from the illegal Israeli settlements. This decision will impact four suppliers, and circa £350,000 of trade. In reaching this decision, the Board was mindful of the additional costs involved in the tracing and auditing of all produce supplied by these businesses.

We would like to know how and why the Co-operative Board has come to such racist decision to deprive legal Israeli suppliers of a much needed income, as well as depriving their Arab-Muslim workers from their jobs in Judea and Samaria. Israeli businesses in Judea and Samaria employ hundreds of people from the local area, and provide a much needed income for their families. They do not use child labour or slave labour to produce their goods, unlike the producers of many Arab-Muslim countries which your company uses to provide supplies to the British market. All these Israeli businesses pay tax, are legal, and are fully compliant with Israel's Human Rights and Work policies.  Your "Human Rights and Trade Policies" however, are prejudiced and discriminatory in essence.  We request a full explanation of how this decision was attained and why.
We would like to state categorically that our position does not constitute a boycott of Israeli businesses. Indeed, we remain firmly committed to sourcing produce from Israel, and we continue to have valued arrangements with some twenty Israeli businesses (worth around £1.75 million per annum). Our need to source high-quality seasonal produce, including peppers, tomatoes and herbs, means that it will predominantly be our Israeli growers and suppliers who benefit from the transfer of trade from those delisted. As such, this decision is not expected to lead to a significant overall reduction in our trade with Israeli businesses.

I regret to inform you that by boycotting legitimate Israeli businesses in Judea and Samaria, you are boycotting Israeli goods in general. The fact that you claim to still be sourcing products from certain parts of Israel simply exposes the fact that your company has fallen victim to Arab-Muslim and Palestinian propaganda, which in itself is anti-Semitic, and which refuse to recognize the country of Israel in its totality. In other words you are saying that your company is refusing to buy products from Israeli businesses in Judea and Samaria, simply because the Arab-Muslim propagandists have falsely claimed these lands are "occupied Palestinian territory" and not part of Israel.

In addition to our firm commitment to Israeli produce, we continue to seek increased trade links with Palestinian businesses. For example, we were the first major UK retailer to stock Fairtrade Palestinian olive oil.

There is no such thing as "Palestinian" businesses. These businesses are Arab-Muslim and are heavily subsidised with funds from Syria and Iran. These businesses were built in Jewish land. If there is any occupation, the "Palestinians" are the ones who are occupying Israeli land. By seeking trade with illegitimate "Palestinian" businesses, you are automatically increasing funds for the TERRORIST Hamas leadership who oversees and rules these "Palestinian territories", by means of terror and Human rights abuse against their people.
Hamas is a terrorist organization. From every money that goes to "Palestinian" suppliers, a very large percentage of it goes towards funding terrorism for Hamas, so they can buy weapons to attack Jews and Palestinians, who support Israel and do business with Israelis.
Your company is therefore contributing fully and unashamedly to terrorism against Israelis and righteous Arabs.

Meanwhile we request that you send us a copy of your "Human Rights and Trade Policy" for our perusal.

We also wish to bring to your attention that we will be escalating this matter and will be taking this very seriously. UK Companies should not be involved with buying produce from areas whose government is a prescribed terrorist organization, and neither should you offer these products to an ignorant British public who do not know these products are being sourced in Israeli occupied territories and the funds are being used for terrorism against Jews in their own land.

I hope that this information clarifies our position.
Yours sincerely

Original message from JDL UK Team

It has come to our attention that your company the Co-Operative Group is boycotting Israeli goods made in Judea and Samaria. I want you to know the decent citizens of the United Kingdom will not stand for this disgusting and frankly racist stance you have taken, and we will urge the general public to boycott you in return. We will make sure the word gets out by the thousands, every single day, until this Fascist Boycott of Israeli made goods stops, and believe me, that is a promise. You rely on sales to people just like me to survive, let's see who's boycott has the greater effect.

Regards,

Jewish Defence League UK Team
